Kamchatka Steelhead Project - 2022 Reports
Decisions for 2023 Pending
Dear KSP Sponsors,
The 2022 KSP Season operated in a modest manner this past season, with participation from a small group of Russian fly anglers who helped with the scientific effort. The weather and the angling was pretty tough. As you may know, Justin Miller made a solid solo effort to travel to Kamchatka, joining with Kirill and the small team to maintain the science and anti-poaching effort.
Justin's adventure there and back provides the smallest sliver of hope that adventurous souls could again travel to the land of volcanoes and wild steelhead in 2023 - but no decisions will be made in the short-term until crucial assessments on operational security and safety can be confirmed before -decisisons we will make in mid-Spring 2023.
Please take some time to read the 2022 reports and view photographs from Professor Kirill Kuzishchin and Justin Miller below.
I would like to express my most profound gratitude for the generous financial support that you provided in 2020, 2021 and 2022 — which has made it possible to sustain our anti- poaching presence and scientific programs that our conservation achievements have attained over the past 28 years.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Pete Soverel
